Old Mother Hubbard
Went to the cupboard
To get her poor dog a bone ;

The cupboard was bare,
And so the poor dog had none.

 

VIEILLE  MÈRE  HUBBARD

Vieille Mère Hubbard
A ouvert l'armoire
Pour donner un os
À son pauvre chien.

Au fond de l'armoire,
Il n'y a pas d'os
Et le pauvre chien
N'en a eu aucun.
 

SIMPLE SIMON

Simple Simon wen a-fishing
For to catch a whale,
But all the water that he had
Was in his mother's pail.

Simon s'en est allé pêcher
Pour attraper une baleine,
Mais la seule mer qu'il avait
C'était un peu d'eau de la Seine.

THERE WAS A MAN

There was a man in our town,
And his was wondrous wise ;
He jumped into a bramble bush
And scratched out both his eyes
And when he saw his eyes were out,
With all his might and maintenant
He jumped into another bush,
And scratched them in again.

 

À BESANÇON

Il y avait à Besançon
Un homme qui était très sage ;
Il a sauté dans un buisson
Recouvert de mûres sauvages.

Il s'est griffé le blanc des yeux
Et quand il s'en est aperçu,
Avec un bâton, et c'est peu,
Tous les buissons il a battus.

Vieille Mère est arrivée
Et a voulu se promener,
Pour faire un tour dans le ciel
Et revenir à tire d'ailes.

Elle a attrapé, je crois
La plus belle de ses oies
Elle est montée sur ses ailes
Et a suivi l'arc-en-ciel.
